Through Initiated Act I, and the Tobacco Settlement
funds, the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, CHCA, and
three of the Federally Qualified Health Centers located in
counties with the highest number of strokes are implementing
the hypertension screening and treatment program. CHC Hypertension
and Stroke Prevention Program Coordinators screen for high
blood pressure and refer those individuals to their primary
care physicians or to the CHCs for treatments.
The program is designed for those individuals with hypertension
who are not currently being treated and for whom the financial
burden of the physician visits and medication have precluded
them from being under the care of a provider to control their
blood pressure.
